Pitlochry Golf Club

I played Pitlochry Golf Club in Pitlochry, Scotland which is about an hour inland from St. Andrews. There are some photos below and a few more here.

PitlochryGolf

Pitlochry is a beatiful little tourist town at the south entrance to the Cairngorms National Park. It's not a golfing destination but if you're in the area, this looks like the best place to play based on the ratings at golfshake.com. Weekday green fee with a pull cart was £35.

Course Rating

The golfshake.com ratings for Old Head can be found here. I'd rate the course as follows:

The Course - 3 of 5
Facilities & Service - 3 of 5
Value for Money - 3 of 5

Very friendly staff and membership although it was very quiet on the afternoon we played. The course is a par 69 under 5,600 yards but the first five holes are straight uphill and quite difficult. The entire course is on the side of a hill with pastures and forest on the borders.

The greens were firm but slow. It was easy to fly the ball on to the green and roll off because the ground is so hard. I shot 79 but only with a generous gimme on #16 that I really shouldn't have taken.
